This remarkable work is the first in any language to examine the logic employed by Marx in Capital. The author provides a critical analysis of Marx’s philosophy with reference to preceding, contemporaneous and modern schools of thought. Students of contemporary Marxism will also see in this work a unique consideration of recent commentators from both east and west. Jindřich Zelený examines the precise tenets of Hegelian logic and shows exactly what Marx adopted from them. His ability to render Hegelian and mathematical logic intelligible is as welcome as it is unusual. In pursuing this enquiry the author has also been able to reach some important conclusions concerning the non-Hegelian aspects of Marx’s logic and the relationship of that element in his thought to the work of Russell, Carnap and Tarski.
